On 3 October 2008 grid-enthusiasts gathered at CERN, both physically and virtually, from around the world for a special event: to celebrate the success of the Worldwide Large Hadron Collider Computing Grid project.
The event attracted 250 participants—including approximately 50 journalists around the world—garnering an immense amount of
press.
On-site demonstrations, held through out the day, showed attendees an assortment of grid applications. Demos included the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid, the ALICE experiment, the ATLAS experiment, the CMS experiment, the LHCb experiment, the Health-e-Child project (pediatrics), the ITER project (fusion energy), Open Science Grid and the WISDOM project (drug discovery).
If you were not able to attend in person, check out many of these demos online, posted by the GridTalk project as
virtual tours on YouTube and don’t miss the CERN-produced movie showing
highlights of the day. Detailed information from the event, including the program and images, is available in the online
media pack and at the event
web site.
